neighborhood and visit the first day of our farmers market. The date
is this Sunday, June 7th from 9am to 1pm and the location is in the
parking lot that runs between 8th & 9th Avenue just south of Irving

Gas hits $4/gallon in Los Angeles

Just heard on XM’s 80s station that gasoline has hit $4/gallon in Los Angeles. I hope someone can look into getting CAFE standards up quickly since the current administration seems to be dragging its feet.

Maybe I haven’t been looking hard enough but Galt needs some more stories of those who have graduated from college. My friend Rob, who I didn’t give a strong chance of finishing, just graduated from San Francisco State with a major in International Relations.

Not happy with just a Bachelor’s degree, he is continuing on this fall to work on a Masters and soon thereafter a Doctorate degree in Political Science.

Anyway congrats!

Star Wars mashups and 30 year History Channel special

Along with the news that Lucasfilms will be providing Star Wars clips to be used in mashup and derivatives, the History Channel will present a two-hour special on Monday May 28th titled “STAR WARS: THE LEGACY REVEALED” Some of the people who were interviewed about the movies’ lasting appeal include Newt Gingrich, Peter Jackson, Dan Rather and Nancy Pelosi.

Professional soccer coming to the San Francisco Bay Area

On Saturday (April 7th) I got to watch a great game in town – the California Victory against the Fiji National Team which the Victory won 3-2. A highly partisan Fijian crowd was treated to a high energy display by their countrymen but a couple of defensive mistakes opened the door for the Victory to sneak in two penalty shot goals and the win.

The Victory will be playing their home games at Kezar Stadium which will rawk! I can stagger home if necessary.

Canvas Gallery has been sold

Neighborhood art gallery/jazz joint/bar/nightlclub Canvas Gallery is reported to have been sold and closing. This has been a great place to do and see a variety of things, including Sunday night jazz, board games, Ask A Scientist, open mike comedy and music. I’ll hate to see it leave.

Anyone else know any details? Like is just changing ownership? Nothing has been posted on their website yet.

Malkin and other right wingers don’t understand nuance

Michelle Malkin and her ilk have decided to try to make Kerry’s unintended gaffe about Bush leading us into Iraq a slap at the troops. I think most people who listen to the entire speech will realize that the Senator was not trying to malign those who are serving in the military, but rather those people in charge who don’t listen to informed opinions and decide to dictate their own brand of statesmanship.

No problem Michelle. As long as Iraq is the front story of every newspaper across the country, the election will show that the American public does not think Republicans can handle the job. Keep it up – you’re doing a great service to Democrats everywhere.

Sometimes you forget about the hassle of getting around a crowded city and Friday was one of those days. I walked to the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival and was able to see some truly great music makers.

The crowd was enjoying every minute – I guess at least 20,000 strong.
