Canvas Gallery has been sold

Neighborhood art gallery/jazz joint/bar/nightlclub Canvas Gallery is reported to have been sold and closing. This has been a great place to do and see a variety of things, including Sunday night jazz, board games, Ask A Scientist, open mike comedy and music. I’ll hate to see it leave.

Anyone else know any details? Like is just changing ownership? Nothing has been posted on their website yet.

Almost forgot about the pics from Ozomatli!

Sometimes your drinking and partying can’t all happen inside so a free concert would seem to be a decent outdoor choice. San Francisco’s Stern Grove Park was the venue for a great concert party featuring East LA’s Ozomatli.

These guys definitely know how to excite and had the capacity crowd bouncing and swaying with their infectious ska cum Spanish tinged hip-hop rhythms.

In case you made it out there, see if you can spot yourself in the pictures linked below;

How’s about a little salsa, ladies?

These ladies are dancing and enjoying the Spanish Harlem Orchestra at Stern Grove. The concert was this past Sunday and the meadow was full to capacity and no one was sitting - they managed to get everyone’s hips moving with their beautiful style of salsa and Latin jazz.

I managed to get a bunch of photos taken which I’ve posted to Flickr. Im sure you’ll enjoy them.

San Francisco WiFi… and the Winner Is…Google

This could really rock but I’m not sure how they will be able to provide citywide coverage. Perhaps get on top of lightposts with CPE.

San Francisco WiFi… and the Winner Is…Google:

According to the Associated Press, Google has gotten their way after announcing their intention to provide San Francisco with free wifi last September. Having combined forces with Earthlink after submitting competing proposals in the first round of responses to The City’s Request for Information, they bested a select group of five other companies and partnerships on points [PDF] in front of a secret panel selected by Chris Vein

Some of the upcoming 2006 Stern Grove Lineup has been leaked

One of the best things about the Bay Area is the music/concert/comedy/sports events that take place every day and weekend. An especially good festival is the music concerts in Stern Grove. The shows are top notch and the renovated grove is an excellent place to spend an afternoon.

The main lineup announcement will announced on May 1st, but I’ve found these artists announced so far:

  • Seu Jorge plus Aimee Mann and her Band on June 18th
  • Otis Taylor on June 25th
  • Rebirth Brass Band on July 2nd
  • Mavis Staples plus Jackie Greene on July 23rd
  • Spanish Harlem Orchestra on August 6th
  • Ozomatli on August 20th

Should be another great summer for concerts.
